I have been growing lavender commercially for 19 years. It was a slow start after a lot of other careers including telephone installer, computer programmer, therapist and a few other odd ones thrown in along the way. This project started with 5 acres of view property on Whidbey Island that had been farmed for over 100 years. The family that farmed it before me was the Gerald Darst family and they grew a diversity of crops including filberts and hay, but their most famous crop was their yellow finn potatoes.
